🚗 Car Breakdown Blocks O'Riordan Street in Mascot
Motorists navigating the M5 Motorway through Mascot are currently facing significant delays and disruptions following a major car fire inside the Cooks River Tunnel.
The incident, which saw a vehicle erupt in flames, has forced the complete closure of all eastbound lanes within the tunnel. Additionally, one of the two westbound lanes has also been shut down, severely impacting traffic flow in both directions.
Emergency services and motorway crews have rushed to the scene to manage the blaze and assist with traffic control. Drivers are strongly advised to avoid the area if possible and seek alternative routes, as heavy congestion is expected to persist.
For those travelling eastbound, Transport for NSW recommends exiting at Marsh Street and utilising Airport Drive, Qantas Drive, General Holmes Drive, and Mill Pond Road to connect with Southern Cross Drive. All commuters travelling through or near Mascot should plan their journeys carefully and allow for considerable extra travel time.
