Emergency Services | Alert
Visitors to the Blue Mountains National Park, particularly around the Wentworth Falls area, are urged to take note of extensive closures and ongoing safety alerts.
Track and Road Closures Affect Wentworth Falls
- The Charles Darwin walk, a segment of the Grand Cliff Top walk, is closed between Fletcher Street and Weeping Rock. Detours are in place for access to Wentworth Falls picnic area.
- Sections of the iconic National Pass, specifically west of the Wentworth Falls middle crossing, remain closed due to a significant landslide and persistent risks.
- Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are currently inaccessible as elevated boardwalk repairs are underway. This closure also affects access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene, and Vera Falls.
- The Valley of the Waters below Silvia Falls is closed due to rockfall hazards, also impacting access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene, and Vera Falls.
- Motorists and campers should be aware that Murphy's Road and Camping area will experience roadworks from August 28 to September 5, potentially causing short-term closures and delays, although booked campers are permitted.
- Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to a road subsidence; however, walkers and cyclists can still use the path.
Other Park Alerts
In addition to the local Wentworth Falls closures, other significant alerts include:
- An aerial 1080 baiting program is being conducted across Blue Mountains National Park from August 25 to September 7, 2025, targeting wild dogs and foxes. An ongoing ground baiting program also affects the southern section of the park until May 2026. Pet owners are reminded that domestic pets are not permitted in national parks, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs.
- Numerous other tracks and areas across the wider Blue Mountains National Park are closed due to infrastructure damage from wet weather, rockfalls, and landslides. These include areas in Katoomba, Leura, Blackheath, and Woodford.
- Remote walking tracks within the Kanangra Wilderness, including parts of the Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) trail, have been severely impacted by fire regrowth and flood damage, making them difficult to navigate with limited water sources.
For detailed and up-to-date information on all closures and safety alerts, residents and visitors are advised to check the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) website or contact the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre.
