🧘♀️ Byron Bay Offers Immersive Yoga and Meditation Retreats
Motorists in the Byron Bay region are advised to prepare for upcoming maintenance closures across key northern tunnels, as Transport for NSW undertakes essential work to ensure the safety and functionality of these critical infrastructure assets.
The St Helena Tunnel, located on the Pacific Highway near Byron Bay, is scheduled for routine quarterly maintenance. These closures are vital for inspecting the tunnel's various operating and safety systems. During each closure, both northbound and southbound traffic will be diverted onto the Hinterland Way, specifically between the Byron Road interchange at Bangalow and the Ewingsdale Road interchange at Ewingsdale. Travellers should plan their journeys accordingly.
Further north, the Tugun Bypass Tunnel, situated under Gold Coast Airport, will also undergo regular quarterly maintenance. This tunnel forms a crucial link between New South Wales and Queensland, serving almost 60,000 vehicles daily. Additional closures are anticipated between July and November 2025 to facilitate a significant operating system update. During these times, traffic will be rerouted onto the Gold Coast Highway and Stewart Road.
The Cudgen Tunnel, on the Pacific Highway near Chinderah, is scheduled for semi-annual maintenance. This tunnel, part of the Yelgun to Chinderah upgrade, will see one tube closed while traffic is diverted through the other. These comprehensive maintenance programs across the St Helena, Tugun Bypass, and Cudgen tunnels are integral to maintaining the safety and efficiency of the Northern Region's transport network, impacting travel for residents and visitors to and from Byron Bay.
