🏍️ Two-Motorcycle Crash on Camden Valley Way Sparks Caution

Motorists travelling through Harrington Park are advised to reduce speed and exercise caution following a two-motorcycle crash on Camden Valley Way at its intersection with Fairwater Drive.

The incident, classified as an unplanned crash by Transport for NSW, occurred recently and is impacting northbound lanes on the major arterial road. Emergency services and Transport for NSW personnel are currently on site to manage the situation and assist those involved.

Camden Valley Way is a critical transport corridor linking various parts of Sydney's south-west, including Harrington Park, and has seen significant infrastructure investment with upgrades completed to make it a four-lane divided carriageway aimed at improving safety and reducing congestion. Despite these improvements, the intersection with Fairwater Drive has previously been a point of focus for local traffic committees. Concerns were raised in 2023 regarding a lack of clarity on approach lanes from Fairwater Drive onto Camden Valley Way, leading to proposals for additional left and right turn pavement arrows to enhance safety.

This incident also highlights the heightened risks faced by motorcyclists on Australian roads. Statistics from the NSW Government reveal that while motorcycles constitute just 3.8 per cent of registered vehicles in NSW, they accounted for a disproportionate 19.4 per cent of road deaths as of October 2024. Further data indicates that per kilometre travelled, motorcyclists are approximately 30 times more likely to die in a road crash compared to occupants of a car.
