A 63-year-old man has been arrested in Bass Hill after allegedly breaching a Supreme Court Extended Supervision Order (ESO) and found in possession of a loaded sawn-off shotgun, ammunition, and over $1,000 in cash.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Sex Crimes Squad were notified on Sunday, November 2, 2025, that the man had cut off his electronic monitoring equipment following an unannounced visit from Corrective Services Officers. Immediate inquiries were launched by the Sex Crimes Squad's Extended Supervision Order Team to locate him.

The search concluded on Monday, November 3, 2025, at approximately 2:45 pm, when police apprehended the man in the foyer of a Bass Hill hotel. During a subsequent search, officers located a loaded sawn-off shotgun, 12 rounds of ammunition, and more than $1,000 in cash.

An Extended Supervision Order (ESO) is a legal mechanism in New South Wales designed to manage individuals, often high-risk sex or violent offenders, who have completed their prison sentences but are deemed to pose an ongoing risk to the community. These orders, issued by the Supreme Court of NSW, aim to ensure public safety through continued supervision and various strict conditions, which can include electronic monitoring, residing at a specified address, and mandatory participation in rehabilitation programs. Breaching an ESO is a serious criminal offence.

The man was transported to Bankstown Police Station and charged with multiple offences, including failing to comply with an extended/interim supervision order, possessing a shortened firearm, possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, not keeping a firearm safely, possessing ammunition, and damaging property.

Unauthorised possession of a prohibited firearm in NSW carries severe penalties, with maximum imprisonment ranging up to 14 years, depending on the specific circumstances and type of firearm involved. This underscores the seriousness of the charges laid against the individual.

He was refused bail and was scheduled to appear in Bankstown Local Court today, Tuesday, November 4, 2025.
