A recent vehicle breakdown on the M11 Motorway (NorthConnex) at Pennant Hills temporarily impacted southbound traffic, leading to the closure of one breakdown lane. The incident, classified as an unplanned breakdown, prompted a response from Motorway Crew personnel, with Transport for NSW advising drivers to reduce speed and exercise caution in the area. The scene has since been cleared, and traffic flow has returned to normal.
The M11 Motorway, also known as NorthConnex, is a significant piece of infrastructure in Northern Sydney. This 9-kilometre twin-tube motorway tunnel connects the M1 Pacific Motorway at Wahroonga to the M2 Hills Motorway at West Pennant Hills, acting as a vital bypass for the often-congested Pennant Hills Road. It's recognised as one of Australia's longest and deepest road tunnels, with its southern interchange located right here in Pennant Hills.
NorthConnex was designed with safety in mind, featuring two 3.5-metre-wide lanes and a dedicated breakdown lane in each direction to help minimise delays caused by incidents such as this one. Drivers encountering a breakdown or emergency vehicle on NSW roads are reminded to exercise caution. On multi-lane roads with a speed limit over 80km/h, motorists should safely slow down and move to another lane if it is safe to do so, giving ample space to the stopped vehicle or personnel.
