🔥 Lighthorse Park Grass Fire in Liverpool Under Control

A grass fire that broke out at Lighthorse Park on Atkinson Street in Liverpool has been brought under control by Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW).

According to an incident report from the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS), the small fire, covering zero hectares, was quickly contained. While the RFS often reports on various incidents across the state, the primary response for this urban park fire fell to Fire and Rescue NSW, which typically handles emergencies within metropolitan and major regional areas.

Lighthorse Park is a significant recreational and historical space in Liverpool, situated alongside the Georges River. The park is renowned for its war memorial honouring the Australian Light Horse Regiments and serves as a vital green space for the community. Liverpool City Council has ambitious plans underway to upgrade the park, investing over $35 million in transformative works that will introduce new recreational amenities, improve accessibility, and sensitively relocate heritage elements.

The incident comes as emergency services across New South Wales urge heightened vigilance this Christmas-New Year period. The RFS has already responded to more than 4,000 bush and grass fires since July, highlighting the dry conditions and increased fire risk across the state.

Liverpool City Council also reinforces local fire safety messages, reminding residents that backyard burning is prohibited across the Liverpool local government area to protect public health and the environment.
