A 30-year-old man has been charged following a police pursuit and a dramatic incident where shots were allegedly fired at officers in Macksville early on Saturday morning.
The incident began around 2:15 AM when police attempted to stop a Subaru Impreza on Giinagay Way, Valla. The vehicle failed to stop, leading to a pursuit that was later terminated due to safety concerns.
Police later re-engaged the pursuit when the Subaru was spotted turning onto Jellico Street in Macksville. The car subsequently crashed and became bogged. The driver then fled on foot and sought refuge under a nearby house.
A perimeter was established by police, and during the operation, several shots were allegedly fired towards officers. The residence was evacuated, and specialist police resources were called to the scene.
After negotiations, the 30-year-old man was arrested without incident at approximately 9 AM and transported to Kempsey Police Station. A crime scene was established, and an investigation into the events has been launched.
The man has been charged with five offences, including police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, discharging a firearm with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm (two counts), using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and driving without a licence.
He was refused bail and is scheduled to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday, 25 May 2025.
