🚨Fire and Rescue NSW Ensure Lord Howe Island Supplies Amidst Flood Recovery

Fire AlertsNsw Fire And Rescue 1 min read

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) crews have been instrumental in ensuring that Lord Howe Island receives its essential weekly supplies of food, water, and medicine. Amidst the flood emergency response in the mid-north coast, FRNSW Strike Team “Hotel” collaborated with the NSW SES and Western Australian SES to clear significant damage along Hastings River Road in Port Macquarie.

The team addressed a critical situation at a local business responsible for ferrying supplies to the island. The business's exterior and wharf were heavily contaminated with mud, hindering vehicle access to the supply vessel.

Firefighters, supported by SES members, utilized equipment to remove the mud. A Rural Fire Service Bulk Water Tanker was brought in to assist with the wash-out. Approximately 50 emergency services personnel worked for six hours to clear the site, ensuring the resumption of supplies to Lord Howe Island.

Additionally, a FRNSW Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) crew has established a decontamination gantry in Port Macquarie to clean FRNSW and RFS trucks returning from flood operations. FRNSW has also deployed Community Liaison officers to support isolated communities, providing welfare checks and assistance in flood-affected areas.
