🚧 Limeburners Creek Park Alerts: Spraying & Upgrades

AlertsNsw National Parks 2 min read

Visitors and residents from Port Macquarie planning a trip to Limeburners Creek National Park should be aware of ongoing operations including roadside environmental weed spraying and construction work at Point Plomer Campground.

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has advised that roadside operations targeting environmental weeds are currently underway along Point Plomer Road. These works, which commenced on Thursday, 5 February, and are scheduled to continue until Friday, 27 February, between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm, may cause minor delays. Point Plomer Road provides access to Limeburners Creek National Park, as well as Goolawah National Park and Goolawah Regional Park.

Environmental weeds pose a significant threat to the region's natural beauty and biodiversity. Over 1,600 plant species have been identified as weeds in New South Wales, seriously impacting native ecosystems by outcompeting indigenous flora for resources and degrading vital habitats for local wildlife. The NPWS actively manages these invasive species to protect the area's diverse ecosystems, which are home to many threatened species like koalas, quolls, and the rare ground parrot.

In addition to the spraying, construction of a new onsite office is underway at the popular Point Plomer Campground. This work began on Monday, 2 February, and is expected to continue until Thursday, 2 April 2026, operating Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. While access to campsites and the beach will not be affected, visitors may notice some construction-related noise during these times. Point Plomer Campground is a beloved beachside destination for many Port Macquarie families and surfers, known for its world-class surf breaks and facilities including showers and toilets.

The Limeburners Creek National Park, located just 5 km north of Port Macquarie, is a significant protected area recognised for its ecological and cultural value, making these maintenance and infrastructure upgrades important for its long-term preservation and visitor experience.

Motorists and park users are urged to observe all signage and follow directions from staff conducting these works. For further information or enquiries, please contact the Kempsey office on (02) 6561 6700, Monday to Friday, between 9:00 am and 4:30 pm.
