SYDNEY โ Commuters and local residents in Chatswood are advised to plan ahead this weekend as Transport for NSW implements special event clearways and road closures to facilitate essential Sydney Metro North West Line trackwork. The disruptions are scheduled to commence early Saturday morning and extend into Monday.
From 2:00 am on Saturday, all directions on sections of Railway Street and Brown Street in Chatswood will be affected by road closures and clearways. Specifically, Railway Street will see restrictions southbound from Day Street to Help Street, and northbound from Help Street to Brown Street. Brown Street will be impacted westbound between Railway Street and the Pacific Highway. These stringent no-parking zones will remain in force throughout Saturday until 11:59 pm, all day Sunday, and then from 12:00 am until 2:00 am on Monday.
Chatswood is a critical component of Sydney's transport network, serving as a major public transport interchange and a significant commercial and retail hub on the North Shore. The Chatswood Transport Interchange (CTI) integrates suburban rail services (T1 North Shore & Western Line, T9 Northern Line) with the Sydney Metro's M1 North West & Bankstown Line, making any disruptions here impactful for a wide area.
Transport for NSW highlights that trackwork, such as this planned maintenance, is vital for ensuring the ongoing safety and reliability of the Metro network. The Sydney Metro Northwest project, which began operations in May 2019 and was later extended through the CBD to Sydenham in August 2024, has transformed public transport in Sydney's north-west, and regular maintenance is crucial to its smooth operation.
Motorists are reminded that special event clearways are strictly enforced, meaning all vehicles, including those with parking permits, are prohibited from parking in these zones. Any vehicles left in designated clearways will be towed, incurring a fee. While Transport for NSW mandates that clearways are advertised in advance, past incidents have seen motorists fined due to unclear or obscured signage, underscoring the need for vigilance.
Drivers in Chatswood are strongly encouraged to consult the Live Traffic NSW website (https://www.livetraffic.com/) for real-time updates and to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid delays and potential penalties. If a vehicle is towed, information can be found via the Find My Car website or by calling 132 701.
