⚠️ Warringah Freeway Southbound Closures Affect Artarmon Commuters

Motorists in Artarmon and surrounding areas are advised to prepare for significant traffic disruptions as parts of the Gore Hill Freeway and Warringah Freeway southbound will experience overnight closures next week. These essential works are part of the ongoing Warringah Freeway Upgrade project, affecting the stretch between the Pacific Highway and Ernest Street from Artarmon to Cammeray.

Scheduled closures are as follows:

  • Wednesday, November 5, 2025: 10:30pm – 5:00am
  • Thursday, November 6, 2025: 10:30pm – 5:00am
  • Friday, November 7, 2025: 10:30pm – 6:00am
  • Saturday, November 8, 2025: 10:30pm – 6:00am

The full southbound closure will impact several on-ramps, including Longueville Road (Epping Road), Pacific Highway, Reserve Road, Willoughby Road, Brook Street, and Miller Street. Transport for NSW recommends using an alternative route, planning your journey in advance, and allowing for extra travel time. The overall project activities affecting traffic are expected to continue until November 19, 2025.

Diversion routes will be in place. Motorists can use the Falcon Street (Military Road) southbound on-ramp, except on the night of Friday, November 7, when the Mount Street on-ramp should be used instead. Those travelling from the Lane Cove Tunnel or Longueville Road (Epping Road) are advised to take the Pacific Highway exit southbound and continue along the Pacific Highway to Falcon Street or Mount Street.

The Warringah Freeway Upgrade is a crucial component of Sydney's broader infrastructure strategy, forming part of a significant $1.18 billion investment to enhance traffic flow and connectivity. The project aims to reduce congestion, simplify the complex road corridor, and create better connections, including future links to the Western Harbour Tunnel and Beaches Link. This extensive upgrade involves improving four kilometres of the Warringah Freeway between North Sydney and Naremburn. While construction began in 2022, the Warringah Freeway Upgrade is expected to be completed by 2026, with the Western Harbour Tunnel slated to open in 2028. Artarmon residents and commuters have been closely following developments, with local groups like the Artarmon Progress Association previously raising concerns about the project's impact on local roads such as Reserve Road and Dickson Avenue.
