Wollongong residents and commuters heading north are advised of significant road closures scheduled for Lady Wakehurst Drive in Otford next week. Transport for NSW has announced that the scenic route will be shut in both directions for essential maintenance work on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, between 8:00 AM and 3:00 PM on each day.
The closure specifically impacts the section of Lady Wakehurst Drive located between McKell Avenue and Otford Lookout. This road is a vital link through the Royal National Park, renowned for its winding roads and breathtaking views, making it a popular destination for tourists and motorcyclists alike. Its challenging terrain and environmental factors mean the road is frequently subject to maintenance closures.
During these times, motorists will need to utilise diversions, which will be clearly signposted via McKell Avenue, the M1 Princes Motorway, and Lawrence Hargrave Drive. Drivers should prepare for an estimated additional travel time of approximately 10 minutes and are encouraged to plan their journeys accordingly.
Otford Lookout, which marks one end of the affected section, offers stunning panoramic views of the coastline, including Stanwell Park Beach and is a popular stop for visitors to the Royal National Park. While the road is closed for vehicle traffic, access to Otford Lookout and walking tracks within the Royal National Park should not be affected for pedestrians.
Transport for NSW urges all road users to exercise caution, follow traffic control directions, and check live traffic updates before heading out.
