Commuters travelling between Wollongong and Thirroul will need to make alternative arrangements from Friday, 6 February, as train services will be replaced by buses. The disruption is scheduled to commence at 10 PM and is a result of essential maintenance work being carried out on the rail line.
Transport for NSW has advised that buses will be running instead of trains on this section of the Illawarra line. This maintenance is a common occurrence on the rail network to ensure safety and reliability. For example, similar essential maintenance works were carried out on the Sydney Metro network in late 2023, leading to temporary disruptions and highlighting the ongoing need for infrastructure upkeep across NSW's public transport.
Passengers are advised to check the Transport for NSW website or app for the most up-to-date travel information and alternative routes. Regular maintenance ensures the long-term efficiency of the public transport system in the Wollongong region.
