Visitors to the Blue Mountains National Park are urged to check conditions before heading out, as extensive closures are currently in place across various popular areas. Ongoing wet weather, landslips, rockfalls, and necessary infrastructure repairs have led to the closure of many roads, fire trails, and walking tracks.

Katoomba and Leura Areas Affected

Several key walking tracks around Katoomba and Leura are shut due to elevated landslide risks. These include the Jamison & Kedumba Valley walks, Dardanelles, Giant Stairs, Ampthitheatre, Federal Pass, Furber Steps, Ruined Castle, Mt Solitary, Lindeman's Pass, and Katoomba Falls Round Walk. The iconic Honeymoon Bridge is also closed due to rockfall hazards, as is the Fern Bower track between Prince Henry Cliff walk and Amphitheatre track. The bottom section of the Leura Cascades track is undergoing upgrades until late 2025, limiting access to parts of the Prince Henry Cliff walk. The Leura Cascades parking area and toilets are unavailable, with a short detour via Cliff Drive.

Glenraphael Drive (Narrow Neck fire trail) is closed to vehicles near Cliff Drive due to road subsidence, though walkers and cyclists may still access, subject to potential delays for road work investigations. Parts of Lindeman Pass and Roberts Pass are also closed due to landslides and rockfall hazards. The Six Foot Track is affected by closures at Jenolan Caves.

Wentworth Falls and Woodford

Near Wentworth Falls, the Charles Darwin walk is closed between Fletcher Street and Weeping Rock, with detours in place. A significant landslide has closed part of the National Pass (west of Wentworth Falls middle crossing), while Wentworth Pass and Slack Stairs are closed for boardwalk repairs. The Valley of the Waters, Kedumba Pass, Kedumba Camping Area, and Mt Solitary are currently closed until August 25 due to ongoing landslide risks, affecting access to Roberts Pass, Hippocrene, and Vera Falls.

Blackheath, Mount Victoria, and Megalong Valley

In the Blackheath, Mount Victoria, and Megalong Valley regions, tracks such as Grand Canyon, Old Pt Pilcher, and Walls Caves Tracks are closed until August 25 due to elevated landslide risk. All Grose Valley routes and camping areas, including Victoria Falls Track, Pierces Pass, Perry's Lookdown, Horse Track, Shortridge Pass, Acacia Flat, and Burra Korain, are also closed until August 25. Pulpit Rock Reserve, its lookouts, and part of its walking track are closed. Govetts descent and Rodriguez Pass are inaccessible due to rockfalls and landslides.

Other Closures and Safety Advice

Beyond these, the Paterson Range Trail is closed until August 2025 due to wet and slippery conditions, with Burralow campers advised to use Tabaraga Ridge from Kurrajong Heights. Waratah Native Gardens picnic area and its Gorge walking track are closed indefinitely. The Link walking track is temporarily closed from May 2025 for ongoing track works.

Remote walking tracks within the Kanangra Wilderness Area, including the Kanangra to Katoomba (K2K) trail, have been severely impacted by heavy fire regrowth and flood damage. Tracks may be difficult to navigate, and water sources are limited. Walkers in these areas are advised to possess appropriate experience, navigation skills, and equipment, including a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB), as mobile reception is limited. Penalties apply for non-compliance with closure notices. For more information, contact the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre.
