🌧️ Park Alerts: New Closures, Pest Control, Flood Repairs

Visitors to the Blue Mountains National Park and surrounding areas face various new and ongoing park closures. These are due to aerial pest control, flood repairs, and ongoing infrastructure recovery. Park users should always check official alerts before visiting.

New Specific Closures and Alerts

Several national parks and conservation areas are temporarily closed for an aerial pest control operation from 4pm on Sunday, 3 August, until 5pm on Friday, 8 August 2025. Affected sites include Kanangra Boyd National Park, Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve, and Southern Blue Mountains National Park, among others. Yerranderie Regional Park and Obereon-Colong Stock Route remain open.

Separately, Abercrombie Karst Conservation Reserve is closed until 2026 for extensive flood repairs and visitor facility upgrades, impacting all tracks, campgrounds, and caves.

Ongoing Park Restrictions and Warnings

Numerous areas within the Blue Mountains National Park continue to experience extensive closures due to past wet weather and infrastructure repairs. Key sites in Katoomba, Leura, Wentworth Falls, and Blackheath are affected by rockfalls, landslides, and essential upgrades.

Remote excursions, particularly in the Kanangra Wilderness Area, require caution due to fire regrowth and flood damage impacting navigation. An ongoing 1080 baiting program targets wild dogs and foxes in the southern section of the park until May 2026. Domestic pets are strictly prohibited, as the bait is lethal to dogs and cats.

Adherence to all park signage and NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) staff directions is mandatory. Penalties apply. For the latest information, consult the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre or the official NPWS website.
