🚨 Major Crash Closes Great Western Highway, Wentworth Falls

Motorists travelling through Wentworth Falls are advised to avoid the Great Western Highway at Tableland Road following a major crash involving a car and a motorcycle.

The incident has resulted in the closure of the highway in both directions, causing significant traffic delays and heavy congestion in the Blue Mountains region.

Traffic Advisory and Diversions

Transport for NSW has issued a strong recommendation for commuters to delay their journeys or utilise alternative routes. Emergency services, Transport for NSW personnel, and a helicopter are currently at the scene managing the incident.

Comprehensive diversions are in place to guide motorists around the affected area:

  • Westbound traffic: Before reaching the Nepean River, drivers should consider Mulgoa Road, Castlereagh Road, Bosworth Street, Kurrajong Road, Bells Line of Road, Darling Causeway, or Chifley Road. Past the Nepean Bridge, options include Russell Street, Great Western Highway, and Mulgoa Road.
  • Eastbound traffic: Recommended alternative routes include Darling Causeway, Bells Line of Road, Kurrajong Road, Bosworth Street, Castlereagh Road, Mulgoa Road, and the M4 Motorway.

These alternative routes are suitable for vehicles up to 50.5 tonnes, but motorists should anticipate an additional travel time of approximately 1.5 hours.

Operators of Class 1, 2, and 3 vehicles travelling under a Notice must consult their relevant enforceable network map for approved alternative routes. Those operating under a Permit are strictly advised not to deviate from the approved route listed in their permit without obtaining an updated permit from the NHVR.

Authorities urge drivers to exercise caution, follow all signage, and allow extra travel time if their journey is essential through the Wentworth Falls area.
