A young boy is recovering in hospital after being injured during a hunting excursion approximately 40 kilometres north of Bourke. The nine-year-old boy sustained a gunshot wound to his right thigh and was transported to Bourke Hospital on Friday evening.

The incident occurred while the child was participating in a hunting trip with a group of nine individuals, comprising four boys and five men, all reportedly from Victoria. Officers from the Central North Police District are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the event.
