A 63-year-old man has been taken into custody in Bass Hill after allegedly breaching a Supreme Court Extended Supervision Order and being found in possession of a loaded sawn-off shotgun and ammunition.
Detectives from the State Crime Command's Sex Crimes Squad were alerted on Sunday, 2 November 2025, that the man had reportedly removed his electronic monitoring equipment following a visit from Corrective Services Officers. The Sex Crimes Squad, which includes a dedicated Extended Supervision Order Investigation Team, is responsible for the ongoing monitoring and supervision of high-risk offenders in the community.
Extended Supervision Orders (ESOs) are legal mechanisms imposed by the NSW Supreme Court under the Crimes (High Risk Offenders) Act 2006 (NSW). These orders are designed for individuals who have served sentences for serious sex or violence offences and are deemed to pose an unacceptable risk of reoffending without continued supervision after their release. Conditions often include electronic monitoring, specified residential addresses, and participation in rehabilitation programs.
Immediate inquiries were launched by the Sex Crimes Squad's Extended Supervision Order Team to locate the individual. Their search culminated around 2:45 pm on Monday, 3 November 2025, when the man was arrested in the foyer of a hotel in Bass Hill.
During a search following the arrest, police allegedly discovered a loaded sawn-off shotgun, 12 rounds of ammunition, and over $1,000 in cash. Possessing a shortened firearm carries a maximum penalty of 14 years imprisonment in New South Wales, highlighting the serious nature of this charge.
The 63-year-old was transported to Bankstown Police Station, where he was formally charged with multiple offences. These include failing to comply with an extended/interim supervision order, possessing a shortened firearm, possessing an unauthorised prohibited firearm, not keeping a firearm safely, possessing ammunition, and damaging property. He was refused bail and was scheduled to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday, 4 November 2025.
