Motorists in Merrylands and surrounding areas faced disruptions yesterday following an earlier car fire on the M4 Motorway at Pitt Street, Holroyd.
The incident, which occurred in the westbound lanes, led to the closure of Lane 1, causing significant traffic congestion and delays for commuters travelling through the corridor.
Emergency services, along with Transport for NSW and Motorway Crew, were quick to respond to the scene to manage the hazard and ensure public safety. Drivers were advised to exercise extreme caution and prepare to merge as they approached the affected section of the motorway.
While the immediate danger from the fire was contained, residual delays were expected as traffic conditions returned to normal. Merrylands residents using the M4 for their daily travel were encouraged to allow for extra time or consider alternative routes during the clean-up and traffic management efforts.
