PoliceNsw Police 2 min read

Two men have been charged after an alleged carjacking in Harris Park, a neighbouring suburb to Merrylands, which led to a dramatic police pursuit across the state's south.

The incident began around 11pm on Sunday, 5 October 2025, when a 47-year-old ride-share driver was reportedly threatened by two men, one allegedly armed with a knife, in Albion Street, Harris Park. The grey Toyota Yaris was then stolen, prompting an investigation by officers from Cumberland Police Area Command.

Police allege that the stolen vehicle was used the following morning, around 6am on Monday, 6 October 2025, to obtain fuel from a Goulburn service station without payment. Approximately an hour later, the vehicle was spotted southbound on the Hume Highway near Bookham by Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers.

A pursuit was initiated but quickly terminated for safety reasons. The vehicle then allegedly performed a U-turn on the Hume Highway at Coolac, leading to a second pursuit. This chase concluded in Rodeo Drive, Cootamundra, when the Yaris reportedly drove through a gate and became wedged in a culvert.

The 18-year-old driver and a 21-year-old male passenger fled the vehicle on foot but were apprehended by police after a short pursuit. Both men were taken to Cootamundra Police Station. It will be further alleged by police that the men had alternated driving the vehicle while it was in their possession and neither held a valid driver's licence.

The two men were refused bail and appeared before the Bail Division Court today, Tuesday 7 October 2025. They have been remanded in custody, with the older man due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, 4 December 2025, and the younger man on Monday, 8 December 2025. There were no reports of any injuries sustained during the incident.
