📢 Goulburn Greyhound Racing Club Track Approval

After a protracted 916-day ordeal, the Goulburn Greyhound Racing Club has finally received approval for its straight track development application (DA). The project, which has been in the public discussion for six years, faced significant hurdles, particularly from the Goulburn Mulwaree Council's planning department.

The Hon. Robert Borsak highlighted the delays and obstacles encountered by the club. Despite funding being secured, the planning department allegedly caused extensive delays, including multiple user group consultations, numerous requests for information, and water and flood studies. The department even suggested the club withdraw the DA due to a lack of resources.

The Goulburn Greyhound Club invested $1 million in the 370-metre grass track with lights and removable rails. Ultimately, the council approved the DA via an alternative contrary motion, despite the planning department's recommendation for refusal. The department's opposition was reportedly based on the absence of a master plan (touted since 2010 but never delivered) and the lack of WaterNSW approval, despite allegedly giving WaterNSW only 24 hours to approve the development.

There are calls for accountability within the planning department, with claims of deliberately obstructive behavior. The Hon. Robert Borsak urges the Goulburn Mulwaree Council to address these issues to ensure future developments are handled efficiently and affordably.
