🚨 RFS Responds to St Albans Road Incident in Wisemans Ferry
Residents of Wisemans Ferry and visitors planning to explore the nearby Yengo National Park are advised of several important safety alerts and planned operations in the area.
A hazard reduction burn, known as 'Sunnyvale HR', is currently planned for Yengo National Park starting from September 21, 2025. Visitors are strongly cautioned against entering any closed areas or zones where fire operations are active. For the latest information regarding these burns, the public should consult the Rural Fire Service.
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) will conduct an aerial baiting program using 1080 poison in Yengo National Park, along with Dharug National Park, Koolewong Flora Reserve, Manobalai Nature Reserve, Parr State Conservation Area, Wollemi Flora Reserve, and Wollemi State Conservation Area. This program is scheduled from Monday, August 25, to Sunday, September 7, 2025.
The initiative aims to control wild dog and fox populations to protect native wildlife, including threatened species, and reduce impacts on neighbouring livestock. Signs will be placed at baiting locations. Pet owners are reminded that domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks and that 1080 is highly lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled if in the vicinity and must not enter baiting areas. Immediate veterinary assistance should be sought in the event of accidental poisoning.
Motorists planning to visit Yengo National Park should be aware that road conditions are currently rough and eroded due to recent May flooding. Two-wheel drive vehicles are not recommended, and a 4WD vehicle is highly advisable for safe travel within the park. Please drive carefully and be prepared for challenging conditions.
