🚧 M5 Westbound Upgrade Set to Ease Moorebank Congestion

Motorists travelling through Moorebank are set to benefit from significant improvements on the M5 Motorway, with the NSW Government progressing plans to upgrade the westbound section between Moorebank Avenue and Hume Highway.

This vital infrastructure project aims to alleviate chronic congestion and enhance safety for drivers in the area. Currently, traffic often experiences bottlenecks, particularly during the afternoon peak, due to vehicles entering at Moorebank Avenue and attempting to merge with existing motorway traffic also seeking to exit at Hume Highway. The increasing volume of heavy vehicles from the Moorebank Intermodal Park is also contributing to the congestion.

Transport for NSW is currently undertaking a detailed design and construction tender process for the M5 Westbound upgrade. The community can expect further updates once the contract is awarded, which is anticipated in mid-2025. Following this, construction is scheduled to commence in 2026.

Community feedback has played a crucial role in the project's development. Between August and September 2022, the project team consulted with local residents on the proposed design. The valuable input received was carefully considered and addressed in the latest Submissions Report, which forms part of Transport for NSW's transparent planning process.

This upgrade is poised to significantly improve traffic flow and overall road network efficiency for Moorebank commuters and freight movements alike.
