🛣️ M5 Westbound Upgrade to Tackle Moorebank Congestion

The NSW Government is pushing ahead with significant plans to upgrade the M5 Motorway westbound, specifically targeting the busy stretch between Moorebank Avenue and the Hume Highway in Moorebank. This vital project aims to alleviate persistent afternoon peak congestion and enhance overall safety for motorists using this key transport artery.

Currently, traffic travelling westbound on the M5 through Moorebank often experiences considerable delays during peak times. This congestion is largely attributed to the merging of vehicles entering the motorway at Moorebank Avenue with those already on the motorway looking to exit at the Hume Highway. The situation is further exacerbated by an increasing number of heavy vehicles commuting from the nearby Moorebank Intermodal Park.

Transport for NSW has now awarded the design and construction contract for the M5 Westbound Upgrade to Seymour Whyte. While initial investigation work has already been completed, on-site construction is anticipated to commence in early 2026. The community will receive further updates regarding specific start and finish dates closer to the beginning of the work.

This upgrade is a welcome development for Moorebank residents and commuters, promising a smoother and safer journey on one of the region's most critical road networks.
