Residents and visitors to the Moree region are advised that Couradda National Park and several other nearby conservation areas will be temporarily closed for a crucial pest control program. The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is implementing a 1080 ground baiting operation from Sunday, June 1, to Thursday, July 31, 2025.

This initiative targets foxes, aiming to minimise their impact on native wildlife, particularly threatened species. Signs will be prominently displayed at the entry points of all baiting locations to alert the public.

The closures affect the following areas:

  • Bobbiwaa State Conservation Area
  • Couradda National Park
  • Killarney State Conservation Area
  • Moema National Park

It is critical for pet owners to note that domestic pets are not permitted on NPWS estates. The 1080 bait (sodium fluoroacetate) is highly lethal to cats and dogs. Owners of pets and working dogs in the vicinity are urged to ensure their animals are restrained or muzzled and kept well away from these closed areas. In the unfortunate event of accidental poisoning, immediate veterinary assistance is paramount.

For further information regarding this essential wildlife protection program, the community can contact the NPWS Barwon Area office.
