Sex Crimes Squad detectives have laid charges against a 50-year-old sport instructor in connection with alleged historic indecent assaults that occurred on Sydney's Northern Beaches, including our own suburb of Dee Why, between 1999 and 2007.
The charges come after an extensive inquiry by Strike Force Buxton, which was established in April 2025 specifically to investigate these historical allegations. The investigation culminated in detectives travelling to Queensland, where, with assistance from the Gold Coast Child Protection Investigation Unit, the man was arrested in Southport.
He has been charged with eight counts of aggravated indecent assault, victim under authority. Police will allege in court that the man indecently assaulted two boys on multiple occasions. He was granted conditional bail and is scheduled to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court on Monday, 20 October 2025.
Authorities urge anyone who believes they may have been a victim of a similar crime to contact Crime Stoppers. Confidential assistance is available through 1800 333 000 or the Crime Stoppers website.
