🔥 Rural Fire Service Tackles Car Blaze in Wauchope Area
Residents and visitors to the Wauchope region are advised of ongoing closures and specific warnings affecting nearby national parks, including Bago Bluff and Werrikimbe National Parks.
Bago Bluff National Park is currently closed due to significant impacts from recent severe weather and widespread flooding in the Hastings Macleay area. National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) staff are assessing conditions, and the park will reopen only when it is safe to do so.
Similarly, Werrikimbe National Park has several campgrounds and walking tracks remaining closed until Monday, June 23, for safety reasons following the severe weather. Affected areas include:
Visitors to Werrikimbe National Park should also be aware of an ongoing 1080 baiting program, scheduled from June 8, 2025, to December 8, 2025. This aerial and ground baiting initiative is conducted by NPWS to control wild dogs and foxes. The program aims to minimise predator impacts on local wildlife, particularly threatened species, and to protect neighbouring livestock. Signs will be displayed at baiting locations. Pet owners are reminded that domestic animals are not permitted in NSW National Parks, and 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs. Pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled if in the vicinity and should not enter baiting areas. Immediate veterinary assistance should be sought in the event of accidental poisoning.
For those planning to visit Werrikimbe National Park, adverse weather conditions have caused erosion on some access trails. A4WD vehicle is highly recommended
Authorities advise the public to check for up-to-date information before planning any trips to these national parks.
