🔥 Rural Fire Service Tackles Car Blaze in Wauchope Area
The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has initiated an ongoing 1080 baiting program across the Hastings Macleay Area, which includes Wauchope's nearby Werrikimbe National Park. This essential program, targeting wild dogs and foxes, commenced on June 8, 2025, and is scheduled to run until December 8, 2025, utilising both aerial and ground baiting methods.
The primary goal of this operation is to mitigate the impact of these predators on native wildlife, particularly threatened species, and to reduce the threat posed by wild dogs to neighbouring livestock.
Areas within the Hastings Macleay region where baiting will occur include The Cells State Conservation Area, Cottan-Bimbang National Park, Carrai National Park and State Conservation Area, New England National Park, Pee Dee Nature Reserve, The Castles Nature Reserve, Werrikimbe National Park, Willi Willi National Park, and Mount Seaview Nature Reserve.
Signs indicating baiting locations will be prominently displayed at entry points. It is crucial for domestic pet owners to be aware that pets are not permitted on NSW National Parks managed lands. The 1080 poison is lethal to cats and dogs, so pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled when in the vicinity and must not enter any baiting locations. In the unfortunate event of accidental poisoning, immediate veterinary assistance should be sought.
