Construction has commenced on the $5 million redevelopment of the NSW Government’s regional workplace in Nowra, signalling a significant investment in the Shoalhaven region.

Intermain Pty Ltd has been appointed as the lead contractor for the project and is set to collaborate with up to 30 local subcontractors. This partnership is expected to bolster local employment and businesses over the coming months as work progresses.

The revamped workplace hub will span over 1,800 square metres, offering modern office accommodation across two floors for staff from six government departments. These include the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI), Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), Department of Customer Service (DCS), Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

An additional third floor is incorporated into the design, providing future capacity for further expansion, potentially welcoming more government agencies or even private sector tenants.

A strong commitment to sustainability underpins the redevelopment. The upgraded building aims to achieve impressive environmental ratings, targeting a 5.5 Star NABERS Energy rating, a 4 Star NABERS Water rating, and a 4.0 Star Green Star rating. The design will also align with the latest NSW Government workplace standards, ensuring accessible, inclusive, and flexible workspaces for a diverse range of users.

Member for South Coast, Liza Butler, highlighted the importance of the upgrade for the O'Keeffe Avenue property, which first opened in the early 2000s. "This upgrade is essential to ensure our local public servants can work in a high-quality collaborative setting to deliver their best work and services for the residents of the South Coast," Ms Butler stated. She also expressed pleasure in seeing local contractors engaged, viewing it as a boost for regional jobs and ensuring the investment's benefits are widely felt across the community.

Minister for Lands and Property, Steve Kamper, noted the government's focus on building better communities and investing in modern workplaces to attract and retain talent. Minister for Illawarra and the South Coast, Ryan Park, added that the Nowra Workplace Hub supports hundreds of public servants servicing the Shoalhaven region, and this project will significantly enhance their ability to deliver critical services.
