🐾 1080 Pest Control Programs Rolling Out Near Ulladulla

Local residents in Ulladulla and surrounding areas are advised of ongoing 1080 pest management programs being carried out by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) across several national parks and reserves.

An ongoing ground baiting program, using 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison to control wild dogs and foxes, commenced on 3rd March 2025 and will continue until 3rd September 2025. This operation targets feral animals to minimise their impact on native wildlife, especially threatened species, and to protect neighbouring livestock. Areas affected by this ground baiting include Morton National Park (encompassing various sections like 12 Mile Road and Little Forest Plateau), Conjola National Park, Murramarang National Park, Parma Nature Reserve, Jerrawangala National Park, Colymea State Conservation Area, and Bees Nest Nature Reserve.

Additionally, an aerial baiting program using fresh meat containing 1080 will be conducted between Monday, 28th July and Friday, 1st August 2025. Parks and reserves included in this aerial operation are Bees Nest Nature Reserve, Budawang National Park, Deua National Park, Gourock National Park, Kooraban National Park, Monga National Park, and Morton National Park, among others.

Signs will be prominently displayed at the entry points of all baiting locations. It is crucial to remember that domestic pets are not permitted in NSW National Parks managed lands. As 1080 is lethal to cats and dogs, pet owners in Ulladulla and nearby communities are urged to keep their animals restrained or muzzled in the vicinity of these areas and ensure they do not enter baiting locations. In the unfortunate event of accidental poisoning, immediate veterinary assistance is paramount.
