PoliceNsw Police 2 min read

Police have arrested three people in Auburn following an alleged kidnapping that originated in Riverwood over the weekend. The dramatic arrests occurred on Sunday evening, bringing an end to a serious incident that spanned Sydney's southwest.

The ordeal began on Sunday, 2 November 2025, around 8 am, when a 42-year-old man was allegedly kidnapped from his Riverwood home. Reports indicate a group of unknown individuals forced their way into the residence, assaulted the man, and then left the scene. Riverwood, where the incident began, has a higher violent crime rate than the New South Wales average, being 23.4% higher in 2022-24. Subsequently, detectives from Campsie Police Area Command took charge of the investigation after a crime scene was established at the Riverwood address. Campsie PAC covers suburbs including Riverwood and is part of the South West Metropolitan Region of the NSW Police Force.

Following extensive investigations, police, with assistance from officers attached to both Auburn and Cumberland Police Area Commands, descended on a home on Susan Street, Auburn, at approximately 8 pm yesterday. Upon arrival, officers located the 42-year-old victim allegedly being assaulted by a woman. The woman, aged 44, and two men, aged 28 and 33, attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended by police.

All three arrested individuals were taken to Burwood Police Station. The 44-year-old woman was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics at the scene before being transported to hospital for further treatment. A second crime scene was established at the Auburn address, where police seized a Mitsubishi SUV allegedly containing cable ties and a baton.

Kidnapping is considered a highly serious offence in New South Wales, carrying substantial penalties. Depending on aggravating circumstances, such as being in the company of others or occasioning actual bodily harm, offenders can face maximum prison sentences ranging from 14 to 25 years. The Cumberland Police Area Command, which assisted in the operation, recently underwent boundary realignments in July 2023 to enhance service delivery and more effectively manage workloads and crime trends in its expanded region. Investigations into this incident are continuing, and authorities urge anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via their website: https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information can be provided confidentially, and the public is reminded not to report details through NSW Police social media pages.
