Train commuters in Auburn and surrounding suburbs are experiencing significant disruptions today following a police operation responding to a person near the tracks at Auburn.
Transport for NSW has issued an alert advising that the incident, classified as 'police activity', has led to modified services and requires passengers to allow extra travel time. The affected stations on the T1 Western Line include Auburn, Clyde, Harris Park, Westmead, and Seven Hills, with some services potentially not stopping at these locations.
Incidents involving individuals near railway tracks are unfortunately a recurring cause of delays across the Sydney Trains network. Such events necessitate immediate police and emergency services intervention to ensure public safety, often leading to train stoppages or slowdowns. Transport for NSW highlights that trespassing on railway property is not only highly dangerous but also illegal, carrying substantial penalties.
An eight-carriage train travelling at 100km/h can take up to 500 metres to stop, and freight trains even longer, making it incredibly difficult for drivers to avoid an incident if someone is on the tracks. Individuals caught trespassing on the Sydney Trains network face fines of up to $5,500. The TrackSAFE Foundation consistently promotes rail safety, emphasising that it is everyone's responsibility to be aware and alert when interacting with the rail network.
Commuters are strongly advised to check real-time updates through the Transport for NSW website or their preferred transport apps before commencing their journeys to stay informed on service changes and delays.
