🚧 Roadworks Disrupt New Lambton Heights Traffic Nightly
New Lambton Heights residents and commuters are advised to prepare for significant traffic disruptions as major roadworks are set to commence as part of the Rankin Park to Jesmond section of the Newcastle Inner City Bypass project.
Transport for NSW has announced that McCaffrey Drive will be closed in both directions between Marshall Street and Lookout Road. This closure is scheduled from 7:00 PM on Friday, June 27, until 5:00 AM on Monday, June 30. During this period, traffic controllers will be on-site to guide motorists through the affected area.
In addition to the McCaffrey Drive closure, Lookout Road will also experience changed conditions, being reduced to one lane in each direction. Detours will be clearly marked, with alternative routes potentially adding up to 15 minutes to travel times. Drivers are strongly advised to allow extra travel time, check local signage, and consider using alternative routes to avoid delays.
For heavy vehicles, particularly those with a ground contact or overall width greater than 3 metres, it is essential to contact the project team at least one day in advance on 1800 818 433 to avoid significant delays. Freight operators are also advised that the project operates on UHF channel 52 at the Southern Interchange.
