⚠️ 1080 Baiting Underway in Parks Near Queanbeyan

Local residents in Queanbeyan are advised of ongoing 1080 baiting programs being conducted by the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) in nearby national parks and state conservation areas.

An aerial baiting program using fresh meat containing 1080 poison for wild dog and fox control is scheduled to take place between Monday, 28 July, and Friday, 1 August 2025, across a wide range of parks including Tallaganda State Conservation Area.

In addition to the aerial program, an ongoing baiting initiative using meat baits and canid pest ejectors containing 1080 poison is currently active and will continue until Monday, 1 December 2025. This specific program targets wild dogs and foxes in Tallaganda National Park, Tallaganda State Conservation Area, and Gourock National Park, all areas frequently visited by Queanbeyan residents.

The NPWS stresses that all baiting locations will be clearly marked with signage. Residents are reminded that domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. The 1080 poison is lethal to cats and dogs, and pet owners are urged to keep their animals restrained or muzzled if in the vicinity of these areas, ensuring they do not enter baiting locations.

In the unfortunate event of accidental poisoning, immediate veterinary assistance should be sought. For further information regarding these vital conservation efforts, locals can contact the NPWS Queanbeyan area office on 02 6229 7166.
