🐖 Feral Pig Baiting Underway at Belmount Reserve

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has announced a baiting program targeting feral pigs in Belmount Nature Reserve, located near Queanbeyan. The operation will utilise grain containing 1080 (sodium fluoroacetate) poison.

This program is scheduled to run from Saturday, August 2, until Saturday, August 16, 2025. Visitors to the reserve should be aware that all entrances to the baiting locations will be clearly signposted.

A critical reminder for pet owners: domestic pets are not permitted in NSW national parks and reserves. The 1080 bait is lethal to cats and dogs. Therefore, pets and working dogs must be restrained or muzzled when in the vicinity and absolutely must not enter the baiting location. In the unfortunate event of accidental poisoning, immediate veterinary assistance is crucial.

For further information or enquiries, residents can contact the NPWS Queanbeyan area office on 02 6229 7166.
