The New South Wales Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) is currently responding to an 'Assist Other Agency' incident on Jingellic Road, Tumbarumba, as reported on Friday, 11 October 2025.
While details of the specific nature of the incident remain undisclosed, the RFS confirmed their status as 'Responding' to the location in the Snowy Valleys Council area. The alert level is not applicable, and importantly, no fire is involved in the current situation, with the RFS reporting zero hectares affected.
The role of the RFS often extends beyond battling bushfires. In rural communities like Tumbarumba, local RFS brigades are vital first responders and frequently called upon to provide assistance to other emergency services organisations (ESOs) such as NSW Police, Ambulance Service of NSW, Fire and Rescue NSW, or the State Emergency Service (SES). These duties can encompass a broad range of emergencies, including structural fires, vehicle accidents, storm damage, and even search and rescue operations.
This multi-agency support is a formal function of the RFS, legally outlined under Section 9 of the Rural Fires Act 1997, which stipulates that the Service can assist other agencies at incidents and emergencies under their control. This ensures a coordinated and robust emergency response across the state, leveraging the extensive volunteer network and resources of the RFS.
Residents in Tumbarumba should be aware that RFS crews are on site and actively engaged in supporting the primary agency at the scene. Further updates will be provided as they become available.
