TUMBARUMBA โ The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has deployed crews to Tooma Road in Tumbarumba following reports of a flood, storm, and tree down incident. The emergency, located at 351 Tooma Road, was reported today, Friday, 15 November 2025, with the RFS actively responding to the situation within the Snowy Valleys Council area.
This incident follows a period of notable rainfall in Tumbarumba throughout November. Weather observations for the area indicate a total of 36.8mm of rain has fallen this month up to November 11, with significant falls including 9.0mm on November 4 and 21.2mm on November 5. This moist climate, coupled with often breezy conditions, can contribute to such storm-related emergencies, especially in rural areas like Tooma Road, which is known for its scenic yet sometimes challenging terrain.
While the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is the primary combat agency for flood, storm, and tsunami events, the RFS plays a crucial supporting role, often being among the first responders to incidents within rural fire districts, including those involving storms and fallen trees. In scenarios where the RFS arrives before the SES, the RFS Officer in Charge assumes the role of Incident Controller until the SES takes over. Their multifaceted duties in such emergencies can include everything from assisting with rescues and recovery to clearing hazards and providing logistical support.
Residents in the vicinity of Tooma Road are advised to exercise caution and follow any instructions from emergency services personnel as crews work to manage the situation.
