🎨 Darlinghurst's NAS Gallery Hosts Artful Opening Weekend

The National Art School (NAS) Gallery in Darlinghurst is set to host an engaging opening weekend for its new exhibition, 'The Neighbour at the Gate'. This event promises a deep dive into the exhibition's themes of entangled legacies, resilience, and nationhood, offering attendees a unique opportunity to connect with art and artists.

Arts Industry Day

On Friday, July 11, 2025, an industry-focused day will provide insights from guest curators and featured artists. Visitors will have the chance to participate in artmaking sessions, including creating a ceramic work for James Nguyen's participatory installation 'Homeopathies_where new trees grow' or crafting a fabric tassel inspired by Jacky Cheng's 'Imaginary Homelands'. This day is designed for those interested in the deeper narratives and creative processes behind the exhibition.

Community Day

The following day, Saturday, July 12, will see the NAS Gallery transform into a hub for family-friendly, free creative activities. The Community Day will feature hands-on workshops exploring ceramics, textiles, and printmaking, all inspired by the works of exhibiting artists Jacky Cheng, Dennis Golding, James Nguyen, and Jason Phu. Attendees can contribute to a communal art piece and create their own take-home creations. The day will also include artist and curator talks, followed by an outdoor DJ set featuring local talent. The weekend culminates with a ticketed 'Shared Skies Music Concert' in the historic Cell Block Theatre, with performances by BARKAA, Rainbow Chan, and DJ Rocky Stallone.

The NAS Gallery will be open with extended hours throughout the weekend. These events are proudly supported by the NSW Government through the Blockbusters Funding Initiative.
