⚱️ NSW Government Strengthens Cemetery and Crematoria Regulations

The NSW Government has amended the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2013 to enhance the powers of the regulator, improve outcomes for consumers and their families, and provide clarity for interment industry operators.

These changes aim to strengthen Cemeteries and Crematoria NSW (CCNSW) and provide assurance to grieving families.

Key improvements include modernising and simplifying the Act to deliver stronger consumer protections and create a more responsive and sustainable interment industry.

The government is also addressing the shortage of burial space by opening the first new Crown cemetery in 85 years at Varroville, in Sydney’s South-West.

The Board of CCNSW will be dissolved, and its functions transferred to the CEO of CCNSW, ensuring the regulator's ongoing independence.
