🏥 Newtown Station Delays Due to Medical Emergency
A 45-year-old man has been charged in connection with an alleged assault at Newtown Railway Station earlier this week, an incident that previously led to significant train delays for local commuters.
Police reports indicate that just after 9:30 AM on Monday, July 7, emergency services were called to Newtown Railway Station following reports of an alleged assault on the platform. A 65-year-old man was reportedly knocked unconscious and fell onto the tracks.
Officers from the Inner West Police Area Command attended the scene, alongside NSW Ambulance paramedics who provided initial treatment. The injured man was safely removed from the tracks and transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he received further treatment for spinal injuries.
The incident prompted a police investigation, which has now resulted in an arrest. Following inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a home on Gower Street in Summer Hill, where the 45-year-old man was taken into custody. He was subsequently taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent.
Initial police investigations suggest the two men were not known to each other. The accused was refused bail and was scheduled to appear before Bail Division Court 6 today, Friday, July 11, 2025.
