Wauchope is set to become a hub for innovative, low-carbon manufacturing with local company Solidcast receiving more than $2 million in funding from the Minns Labor Government.
The significant investment is aimed at boosting the production of Solidcast's patented precast concrete panels, which offer a greener alternative for housing and other construction projects across New South Wales. These panels are engineered to cut emissions by up to 60 per cent compared to traditional concrete, marking a major step forward in sustainable building practices.
The expansion of Solidcast's operations in Wauchope is anticipated to create an additional 25 full-time jobs, spanning both the construction and operational phases. This initiative not only supports local employment but also contributes to faster, more affordable, and environmentally friendly construction methods, assisting NSW in meeting its housing demands.
Minister for Climate Change and Energy, Penny Sharpe, highlighted the broader benefits, stating that the transition to net zero is about creating jobs and building industries, ensuring communities benefit from a low-carbon economy. She noted that Solidcast's panels are lighter, stronger, and can incorporate recycled polystyrene, reducing transport emissions and landfill waste.
Minister for the North Coast, Janelle Saffin, underscored Wauchope's role in this innovation, praising Solidcast as a prime example of world-class sustainable construction in regional NSW. She emphasised the importance of backing local manufacturers to build domestic supply chains, reduce reliance on imports, and retain investment and jobs within our regions.
The grant is part of the NSW Government's Net Zero Manufacturing Initiative, a $480 million program designed to enhance local businesses' capabilities in renewable energy, low-carbon products, and clean technologies.
