π§ Flinders Street Roadworks Cause Weekend Disruptions
A man has been charged following an alleged assault on a police officer and several members of the public at Central Railway Station, a key transport hub adjacent to Surry Hills.
The incident unfolded yesterday, Thursday, 14 August 2025, at approximately 4:40 PM, when police were called to the Suburban Concourse of Central Railway Station in response to reports of a man allegedly assaulting two individuals.
Authorities were informed that a 41-year-old man allegedly approached a 45-year-old man, punching him in the face, which caused a nosebleed and a fall to the ground. The assailant then allegedly struck two more men in the head as he moved along the concourse. He reportedly continued his rampage, attempting to snatch a bag from a 20-year-old man.
As the struggle for the bag ensued, officers from Sydney City Police Area Command arrived on the scene and promptly arrested the man.
He was subsequently transported to Surry Hills Police Station where he faced a series of charges, including hindering or resisting a police officer, affray, assaulting a police officer without actual bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault. It is further alleged that while in police custody, the man assaulted a male Constable by pushing him in the chest.
The accused was refused bail and was scheduled to appear via video link in Bail Division Court 7 today, Friday, 15 August 2025.
