๐Ÿ‘ฎโ€โ™‚๏ธ Off-Duty Officer Charged After Surry Hills Incident

A police officer has been formally charged following a thorough investigation into an alleged assault that took place in Surry Hills earlier this year.

Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command launched Strike Force Allenvale to probe the alleged assault of a 19-year-old man, which occurred on Sunday, 13 April 2025. The incident reportedly took place outside a licensed establishment on Mary Street, where the man was allegedly punched during a verbal altercation, causing him to lose consciousness.

Paramedics from NSW Ambulance treated the young man at the scene before he was transported to St Vincentโ€™s Hospital. He has since been discharged.

Detectives investigating the matter uncovered that the alleged assailant was an off-duty police officer. Following extensive inquiries, a 24-year-old male constable, who is attached to a specialist command, was issued a court attendance notice yesterday, Tuesday, 12 August 2025.

The officer is facing charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault. He is scheduled to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday, 25 September 2025. The police force has confirmed that the officer's employment status is currently under review.
